Maid Check-ups and Foreign Workers Medical Examination
Foreign domestic helpers (FDWs) and other workers who are subject to Statutory Medical Examinations are required by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to undergo a health screening or pre-employment medical examination before they are allowed to work in Singapore. If they pass the medical examination in Singapore, they will be eligible to obtain a work permit, which ensures that they are physically fit to work in Singapore. Once they have completed the medical examination process, they can begin their work in Singapore with a clean bill of health.
Here are a few examples of types of statutory medical examinations:
• MOM’s new or renewal work permit application
• Employment pass
• Dependent pass
• Permanent resident medical examination
• Long-term visit pass medical examination
• Student pass
• Medical examination for foreign domestic workers (FDW) work permit and MOM maid employment medical check-up
• Six-monthly medical examination for FDW
Individuals who are applying for or renewing work passes through the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) or the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore will be required to undergo a medical examination. The medical examination is a routine check-up conducted by a qualified medical professional to ensure that the applicant is physically and mentally fit to work.
Upon receiving the in-principle approval (IPA) from ICA or MOM, applicants will be notified of the medical examination requirement, and provided with a copy of the medical examination form. The completed medical check-up report can be obtained from a designated clinic, such as our work permit check-up clinic, before submitting the application along with the in-principle approval letter to the relevant division of ICA or MOM.
It’s worth noting that applicants who test positive for any infectious disease will not be granted a work permit, employment pass, long-term social visit pass, or permanent residence in Singapore.
